METHOD STATEMENT FOR THE MULTIMEDIA WATER FILTRATION SUPPLY SILICA SAND REPLACEMENT AND COMMISSIONING

Scope of Work

The supply & supervision of Silica sand replacement and commissioning of Multimedia water filtration systems at [Write down project name here].

General Description

  1. The purpose of the multimedia filter is to remove the turbidity, sediment, taste, odour etc. and thereby improve the overall quality of water.
  2. The Multimedia water filtration systems consists of the following major parts:
  3. Filter vessel, where the water will be treated.
  4. Automatic controller, which will be programmed to run in different filtration cycles.
  5. Activated Carbon media will remove the taste and odour from the raw water.
  6. Silica sand/gravel media, which will filter water from the sediment.
  7. Distribution system, which will supply water to the vessel in different cycles.

  2. All materials should be on the site before the installation.
  3. All drawings should be submitted and will be available at the site before commencing the installation.

Installation Procedure

  1. Disconnection of the charger & top-mounted controller valve on the vessel keeps it safe from the immediate working area to safeguard it from any water spillage area.
  2. Removal of existing sand Media in the Fiber Reinforced Plastic (FRP) vessels
  3. Clean Fiber Reinforced Plastic (FRP) Vessel inside, Riser Pipe & Strainers by using clean water
  4. Positioning of Fiber Reinforced Plastic (FRP) filter vessels on the concrete base foundation as per approved drawings.
  5. Fixing the distribution system inside the vessel.
  6. Filling the New sand media layer by layer inside the vessel.
  7. Re-installation of top-mounted controller valve on the vessel.
  8. Re-installation of necessary piping connections within the system.
  9. Fixation of pressure gauges for multi-media filter IN/OUT Pipeline.
  10. Power cables will be connected to the equipment & the control system.
  11. Update Date, Back wash timing and frequency of backwash in the control valve
  12. Restart the equipment with backwash operations to clean the quartz sand until the wastewater outlet is clean.
  13. After ensuring that the quartz sand is washed clean and keeping the filtration system in the operation mode
  14. Dispose safely existing media from the site

Operation

Before putting the system into operation, the following items should be checked:

  1. All the equipment shall be fixed rigidly.
  2. The piping connection to and from the system is completely laid and checked for no leakage.
  3. Startup Procedure for filtration unit for testing:
  4. Check if the power supply is connected and ready to start.
  5. Ensure the controller is programmed as per filtration requirements.
  6. Run the filter feed pump to allow the inlet flow to the filtration system.
  7. Run the system for at least 30 minutes to confirm if all the equipment and instruments are working well.
  8. Ensure the proper flow of filtered water through the outlet pipe of the system.

Safety Procedure

  1. First aid shall be available for in-site injuries and all injuries shall be reported to the responsible authority.
  2. Any abnormal incidents shall be brought to the notice of the responsible authorities.
  3. All the areas shall be barricaded with warning tape. Well-planned execution of work.
  4. Safe use of tools and equipment.
  5. Keep the fire extinguishers and fire blankets close to the worksite
