PROJECT SITE SAFETY

EMPLOYEES RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Everyone is responsible, not only for their Health and Safety on site but also responsible for the health and Safety of those people working around them.
  2. Accidents, Incidents and Near misses are Avoidable If you have the right attitude and support for health and safety.
  3. If you don’t work safely….and injure (or worse) yourself, or others. Think of the consequences. Your family…. your friends…how will they react… long term effects?
  4. The greatest gift you can give to your family is your SELF!
  5. All personnel (including visitors and subcontractors) must have received a Project Site Safety Induction before commencing working on site.
  6. All personnel must always wear the appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) (3 items minimum includes, including safety shoes, safety helmet and safety vest.)
  7. Observe all Project site Safety signs and instructions.
  8. Observe Project site traffic rules.
  9. Report all accidents, incidents and near misses, no matter how small, or incidental, to the site Safety Officer.
  10. Work areas should be kept as clear as possible of unnecessary materials and waste. Use the Bins provided.
  11. The use in possession of or being under the influence of illegal drugs or alcohol is strictly prohibited.
  12. Do not remove, deface, or damage safety signs or barriers, they are there for your, and others' safety.
  13. Do not operate equipment that you are not trained or authorized to use.
  14. Ensure that you have the right tools and power tools to carry out your job… if you don’t… then ask!
  15. Only carry out electrical repairs and maintenance if you are qualified to do so
  16. Strictly NO SMOKING while working and in work areas, designated smoking area is provided and during the break only.
  17. No running, horseplay or fighting.
  18. No urinating in the work area; use the toilet areas or chemical toilets provided.
  19. Keep rest areas and toilets clean.
  20. Always wash your hands after using the bathroom.
  21. Ensure that you drink plenty of fluids to keep yourself hydrated.
  22. Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
  23. 3- Essentials & Mandatory items of PPE must always be worn on-site:
  24. Safety Boots or Shoes (Metal toe caps)
  25. Hard Hat
  26. Hi-Visibility vest
  27. Additional PPE may be required depending on the activity/job or area that you are working in e.g., Gloves, Safety glasses, Dust mask etc. these will be identified in the method statement and risk assessments
  28. Zero tolerance Project Site
  29. No Alcohol is to be bought on-site.
  30. No consumption of alcohol is permitted on site.
  31. No illegal drugs or substances are to be bought on-site.
  32. If you are caught under the influence or in possession of drugs or alcohol on-site, you will be removed, and disciplinary action will be taken.

Project Site Traffic Rules

  1. The maximum site speed limit is 20kmh, but you must always drive with care and attention taking into consideration road and weather conditions.
  2. Stop if your route ahead is obstructed. If you cannot proceed or remove the obstruction safely yourself, then you must contact your supervisor or foreman to arrange safe removal.
  3. Only proceed when the route is clear of obstruction, plants, and people.
  4. At blind corners or busy junctions, sound the horn to warn other drivers of your approach.
  5. Keep the designated roadways and haulage roads. (No Road driving is permitted).
  6. Do not damage or remove edges or barriers, they are there for your safety! 

Safety Sign’s

  1. A circle with a red outline and red line from the top left to bottom right indicates that an action is prohibited – “Do Not”
  2. A triangle with a yellow background is used to indicate a Warning – “Danger /Caution”
  3. A circle with a blue background is used to indicate that an action is mandatory – “Must Do”
  4. A green rectangle with green background is Advisory – “Information”

Site Safety Housekeeping

  1. Keep your work areas clean and tidy
  2. Remove all rubbish
  3. Use the appropriate COSHH Bins provided for Hazardous substances.
  4. Remove all materials that are not required, or being used
  5. Store equipment and material safely
  6. Be aware of your work surroundings
  7. A tidy site is a safe site!!!
  8. Responsibility of all Employees
  9. Good Housekeeping involves the maintenance of:
  10. Sound structures
  11. Power lines
  12. Tools and machinery
  13. Storage area and equipment
  14. General cleanliness
  15. Storage and stock need special attention to keep damage to a minimum.
  16. Clear all empty boxes and wastepaper from the walkways.
  17. Do not manually lift heavy items single-handedly.
  18. Stack materials so that they are easily accessible.
  19. A Tidy Site is a Safe site.
  20. Do not stack boxes or materials too high.
  21. Ensure that rubbish does not accumulate on walkways.
  22. Clean up at the end of a shift.
  23. Soak up and clean up the oil spill immediately.
  24. Keep access to fire extinguishers and fire escapes always clear.

Incident and Accident Management

  1. Timely reporting – as soon as possible report the accident, incident or near misses to the site Safety Officer.
  2. All accidents, incidents or near misses must be reported to the site Safety Officer and Supervisor in the first instance.
  3. All injuries that require treatment must be reported to the first aider or site nurse for an initial assessment.
  4. Treatment and Advice

  7. Local Hospital

Emergency Procedures

In the event of an emergency or Fire:

  1. Raise the alarm.
  2. Contact the emergency services (000).
  3. Contact the site Safety Officer.
  4. Tell them who you are, where you are and what the emergency is, and await instruction.

On hearing the alarm:

  1. Evacuate your working area.
  2. Evacuate immediately via the signed escape routes.
  3. Proceed to the nearest assembly point.
  4. Await instruction – do not return to work/site until specifically told to do so by the Project Manager or the site Safety Officer
