What Must We Do?

We Must:

  1. Carry out a fire-risk assessment.
  2. Know who may be particularly at risk.
  3. Get rid of or reduce the risk of fire.
  4. Provide general fire precautions to deal with any possible risk.
  5. Take other careful initiatives to make sure there is proper protection if flammable or explosive materials or substances are used or stored.
  6. Create an Emergency / Evacuation Plan.
  7. Review our findings when necessary.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Provide Staff with clear info.
  2. Provide other employees on-site with info on risks & control measures.
  3. Consider the presence of dangerous substances.
  4. Establish suitable means of contacting the emergency services & provide them with info.
  5. Provide appropriate training for staff.
  6. Ensure appropriate maintenance systems are in place for all fire safety measures.

Action on Discovering a Fire

RAISE THE ALARM

Shout Fire or hit the nearest break glass call-point.

Only attempt to fight the fire if it is safe to do so.

If you are unsure or your attempt is unsuccessful.

EVACUATE

Do not try to collect personal items.

Action on Hearing the Alarm

  1. Remain Alert
  2. Evacuate via the nearest available exit - Follow the Fire Evacuation Signs.
  3. Report to the Assembly point.
  4. Keep Fire Doors Closed.
  5. Do not use lifts.
  6. Remain at the assembly point until instructed otherwise.
  7. Listen to instructions from the person in charge.
  8. Do not attempt to collect personal items.
  9. Do not try to re-enter the building.

General Fire Safety

  1. Always maintain good housekeeping.
  2. Report defects that you see.
  3. Keep sources of ignition and potential fuels to a minimum.
  4. Ensure all flammable liquids are properly stored.
  5. Keep quantities in use to a minimum.
